Raising Meat Rabbits

if you want them to breed before the doe has her kits she should show signs pulling fur etc. if you don't want them to breed, it can happen unplanned around 10-12 weeks see the posts above rabbits mature quickly.

I usually separate the sexes at about 10 weeks, since rabbits become fertile at 12 weeks or so of age. It isn't usually a good idea to let a doe breed before she is fully mature. Most people say not to breed before 6 months of age, though there are commercial breeders that regularly start breeding does at 5 months or even less.

Thanks bunny lady! nice to know i am not alone in this! i dont breed until after seven months so this was way too early for me! all dates including parentage are recorded and march thirtieth i will know how labor is going to go! she was the runt so maybe she will have small babies and all will go well

Heres the girl im talking about at two and a half months so scrawny but she has developed very high quality fur! you never know when you mix breeds what will turn up! i love the variety!

I am considering getting a doe with kits... debating now. I want to pick up material to make cages today though to make extra cages.

that is a lot of cages to build...btw check home depot, lowes etc forwhat they call culls I got 6 pieces of regular plywood today for 8 each usually 17 because the edge was cracked...chicken and rabbits don't care if the edge is cracked....you sound like me with hatching eggs lately I have things hatching this weekend then 10 day later some ducks then about 7 days after that chickens, then 7 days ducks...turkey eggs due to come after that..

You should call local fencing guys. I know one in my area sells truck or truck and trailer loads of recycled lumber for $11 a trip. Some of it has never been used, it is their "culls".
