Raising Muscovy

I would like to know what all you have to do in order to sale muscovy meat to the public. Can anyone tell me all the steps to be taken to make a farm a profitable one? What type of testing would have to be done on the muscovy? How would you go about getting buyers for the meat? I would love to at least make enough to pay for their feed. My dream is to have a large scale farm selling muscovy and maybe a couple other breeds of duck. Thanks for all advice!

I'm thinking you might get more response if you posted in the meat bird thread, I know there are folks here who process their birds for their own consumption but I'm thinking meat bird maybe the way to go for the info your looking for.

In most areas it is illegal to sell processed meat to the public unless you send the birds to a licensed processing plant for butchering. There would be no way of regulating home butchered meat to verify it is hygenic and safe to eat.

Many processors don't do ducks as they are more difficult to pluck than chickens. Most people sell birds that are "ready for processing"

Thanks,That would be great even better. I tried listing grown duck even ducklings but i guess no ones wanting duck. I can sell chicken all day long but not duck. Just not a market for them i guess.Oh well i will enjoy them myself and hopefully one day sale a few.

Duck meat isn't very popular. Try talking to the enthic markets, go to their stores/restraints and talk to them. I know some places will take live animals if they want it enough. Or some will just process them themself just because they are set up for it.
