I love the weather complaints. We have had as low as -32 already this year, and just yesterday -12. We may get to 47 degrees Saturday!

And my chickens survived it all without a touch of frostbite, Yay DH!! Your carpentry skills rock!

On the subject of meat birds, be careful what you get, or be prepared for disappointment. I have 15 remaining white rock, that are well over 24 weeks now, and still aren't ready to butcher. I was told they were CX and wouldn't live past 12 weeks if I didn't butcher them.

So far they seem like CX, except crook. Crook, I dunno. Veeeeery slow growing, looks like the others did at 2 weeks and she's 7 weeks, growing Out like a layer chick but she has a leg issue still splayed even after we fixed it before, it came back out. But she's still kickin and loves being center of attention of the peeps.



Hahaha @ cold. My parents are up north, they laugh at my complaints...but in all fairness I bailed South to avoid this cruddy cold that kills all my gardens and threatens my baby animals! It followed me. It's the coldest winter here for us yet. And people here do NOT know how to drive in it or even own more than one sweatshirt (some people I know had to go buy socks ...because barefoot & sandles are so common here they're year round for a few friends lol)

My girl helps too when she's not in school...she's muuuch neater at filling troughs than the boy lol

Being so cold its been slow on the predator front...dog has taken to surveying flocks from the porch lol

BRRRR everyone is locked up and covered, fingers crossed the extended cold isn't TOO cold :/

The ameraucana are laying finally, I love it. Even if yesterdays eggs were cracked. Apparently eggs freeze not so well doh

He's almost done with a processing table, double sink will sit in the hole and a x large cutting board on other side. It will get coated in a type of food safe plastic to make it easy to keep clean and not stain.

Thanks. I am very happy with them right now and they are almost sold out. I wanna do the farmers market in the spring I think. I wonder if they'll let me bring chicks too lol

Hubby may order ANOTHER batch this week. So far we've had a perpetual batch of chicks I wonder if sales will taper off. People have been buying them in 5's because of price. I thought winter would be slow and spring would be busier, we are pretty busy tho now so I hope it stays steady or even picks up come spring. We shall see.

So what you're saying is the coldest La winter yet is all YOUR fault. Because of you my pipes froze last night.

Clint just came in to tell me that even though it is 24 the water came back on. Yea!!!

My BFF moved to NM. She sent me a picture of a two hour late start there for "Snow." It was a dusting. Haha... we had 14 inches, and started school on time. We have a saying going around facebook here "South Dakota, come for the winter scenery, stay because your car won't start!"

We just had 2 hour late start today, 1st day back from break...no snow! Just really cold at 14 to 17 degrees depending where in the state but they had schools start 2 hrs late
