I want to get about 12 pheasant chicks this summer to grow out and realease on our property. We used to have a flock of 8 pheasants that woulD stick around, but they got killed off eventually. I was wondering if anybody has experience rearing pheasants and releasing them?

I do 30-40 a year, love having them around! I’ve had better success keeping them around if they’re released later; in Ontario you’re allowed to release ten per person per year.
Even after the harsh winter we’ve had there are a few still hanging on, they come to feed stations here and at a few neighbors. I’m hoping for “wild” chicks this spring, fingers crossed!

Oh yah, and they escape. You think your pen is secure? It’s not. They’ll find a way! My fezzie brooder is now in a separate room of the barn, when they’re ready they have access to their own room stocked with fresh brush and trees, I can fill the feeder and water from outside, when they feather out I open the hatch to the outdoor pen so from hatch to release they have no opportunity to escape :)
