Raising Rainbow Dixies

The girls have grown fast. This is them at 8 weeks. We moved them out to the coop at 4 weeks with a radiate heater. They loved the extra space and jump flying around the yard. We kept them in the coop for the first week then opened the door to the run. They go to explore the run for another week. We bo open everything up and let them free range. They free ranged right into our garage and laid down. They live the space. After I feed them they follow me, it is cute. They are good chickens. Are cat was scared of them, but she is now getting more comfortable. They are great chickens so far...great with the kids.
Hey there I bought a couple Dixie rainbows a couple months ago and actually kept them as layers, to me they are Dual Purpose bird even though they were marketed as meat birds they probably weigh about 7 lb each but they give me a nice big brown egg, I got a a couple more today not sure how old they are but they are in that between stage where they are not clucking but not chirping it's like a Midway they also are completely feathered out and weigh about 3 lbs each I'm guessing there about 12 weeks? The last ones I got were already well into their fifth month these guys I'm hoping our females they looked exactly like yours and their Combs are the slightest bit pink.... the guy I got them from said they are definitely females and compared them to males of the same age which had huge red Combs and wattles so let's hope he is right LOL if not I'll be eating good, all I know all I really like these birds as well as their plumage I might actually grab a couple more!!

They marketed mine as a dual purpose breed. These are the only chickens I have ever had,so nothing to compare to, but I like them. I wanted something that would be very friendly and these girls are it. One will even jump on my lap and want me to pet her. I bought them sexed, but I think one might be a rooster...we will see. Mine are in that stage also where they are not quite clucking, but kind of. I can't wait until they start laying eggs. How old were yours when they started laying?

Thanks for the update, they are beautiful!

My girls are getting big. I built them a larger run now because they don't get to free range as much. They poop on our patios and stairs and our neighbors have had problems with foxes getting to their chickens, so now they stay in the run until the afternoon.

The girls have all lost their original tail feathers and grown new tail feathers with black tips. Not sure if that is normal.

They love corn as a treat. Attached is a picture of them all gathered around eating corn.
