I just started rasing chickens last year and have expanded from red production chickens to white breasted turkeys, then Cornish rocks for meat (did a batch of 73 of them lol). Now this year I made a digital temp and humidity controlled incubator and have gotten emu eggs that I am currently in the process of hatching out right now. Next I will try a couple ostriches. Why? Because I can lol.

Oh wow good job . You sound a lot like me. If you plan on raising the emus and ostrich’s make sure you do your research(not to say you haven’t) and make sure you know what your getting into.
Yea, we literally bought property just for these ratites. This is an easy task compared to my aquaponics system I built lol. Water cooled LEDs using a heat exchanger to give tilapia heat, pumping the wastewater from the tank through a grow bed of clay rocks and red Wiggler's then a bell siphon I made to control water level and flood/drain cycles. I've been interested in ratites but never had the time for them until now. I really want to try ostriches after these emus hatch which should be any day now. I've heard in the early 1900's hey used to be trained for riding. Not expecting it to work out, but it would be cool to try and do that. Sadly though, information galore on hatching and raising them, but nothing other than old articles about ostrich farms that would give rides to people back in the day. Yes, I know, horses and donkeys and almost every four legged farm animal is so much easier to work with, but wouldn't it be interesting to bring something back like that? Btw I attached a pic of the first aquaponics system I made. (There are many more now lol)

They definitely are very amazing animals! If they had a tail they would basically be a living dinosaur lol. I noticed some get like dark black stripes when they are born and some get brown stripes from pics I have seen. Do you get varying colors like that? And how long was it before yours had the colors fade and the adult feathers come through?
