Hi all, we raise white silkies. I changed up my chicken house this spring. I added a small platform to act as a perch about 21/2 feet from the floor of the chicken house and let the birds jump stacked plastic milk crates to get up to the perch. I noticed that some chickens would use the perch, some would not, one gets up but can't seem to get back down. Am thinking about makeing a small ladder for their access using 1x2's and lean it up against the perch. Can anyone advise about the distance between the rungs of the ladder, what is a good angle to lean it suitable for our little silkies

Thanks in advance

When I made my ladder, I made it out of pines I clipped from in my woods. I used green wood and drywall screws. I just guessed on how far apart the rungs were to be and the angle. I thought about how far apart their legs could go. And I did find that I needed to readjust them a little closer together. Hope that helps you.

I have a perch about a foot off the ground and my silkies all use it now, even though they were raised without one. so I wouldn't think they would HAVE to be to awfully close together if they can get up a foot by themselves.
