Ramp Grade

Is there a recommended ramp grade (height vs length) for a ramp for ducks?I am working on building the coop and wanted to see what everyone else has found to work best for them. And what type of ramp worked best (wood, stone, dirt).

Some people don’t recommend ramps for ducks, but I have them on my duck house and they do just fine. I think they do better when they are introduced as babies. I just use a wooden ramp with pieces of grip tape on it. I am not 100% what the grade is but it is pretty low.

The ramp to their big pool is about 45° and they have no trouble. It's just a plain piece of plywood resting on a chunk of 4 x 4. There is another going into their pen which is a board with little pieces of wood nailed on about every foot or so the way katiebrock has her tape.

Ducks will figure it out so I wouldn't worry about it too much, just don't make it too steep of a grade like they have in those "tractors" that they sell for chickens. Some of those are practically 90°!

Good question. I know mine don't use the ramp, we have to go around to the front and let them in through the human door, since it sits lower than the pop door. It's something I need to work out before next winter. I've thought of making a longer ramp with a lower grade, but I'm not sure they would use it at all.
