I'm interested in ISA browns, golden comets, and maybe some RIR's. So I noticed that Randall Burkey carries all of these...do they drop ship from other hatcheries? Anyone have experience with them?

Last year's chicks came from Privett via our feed store. We ordered EE's, delawares, and speckled sussex. The EE's egglaying has been disappointing, we get one egg per day from 5 hens. The delawares are really friendly but the eggs are kind of puny for the amount of feed they eat. The speckled sussex are nice, but I wouldn't say I'm excited about the size or quantity of their eggs.

The previous year we only raised 6 RIR hens, again from Privett via the feed store. Awesome gals! They were averaging 4-5 eggs per day last winter, not so many this winter. Friendly, but not the prettiest of RIR birds, not the dark coloring I was expecting. I would almost think that they are production reds.

So...anyone have opinions on the best place for the breeds I want or opinions on Randall Burkey???

They DO drop ship but there's NOTHING wrong with that! Everyone seems to be against it and i say go for it. ive got from stromburgs who drop ship's and my birds were super healthy!!
You will still receive birds either way and if its a company that you like, your all-set!

What is wrong with drop-shipping? Im not trying to start a debate, but I really dont know much about it.

If they're drop shipping you can often buy the chicks cheaper from the original hatchery.

For instance, I'm curious if Randall Burkey is drop shipping some breeds from Privett since I already have experience with their birds.

And I can get Privett chicks pretty cheap from our local feed store and don;t have to meet any minimum requirements. I can order only 1-2 of the breeds I want since the feed store will order in bulk and just sell the rest.

i have never used randall burkey for chicks, but i do order most of my supplies from them and have been more than satisfied with customer service, with that said, i have used ideal for the past to shipments of chicks and was highly satisfied with quality of the birds. their gold sex link is great. have you looked at the thread about ideal with pictures their are some highly impressive birds, if you have not looked it may be worth taking a look. but i do not want to sway you away from randall burkey at all as stated above go with a company you like and trust.

They dropship all of their birds. There quality of birds is the exact same as privett. When Purely Poultry does drop shipping we on almost all our products we charge the same retail price that the original hatchery does.

Right now our prices are listed as higher because our primary breeder only hatches until September and so we had to up the prices during the off season. On February 1 the prices will be back down to the same retail cost as our primary breeder.

I've ordered twice from Randall Burkey. The first time I ordered a mixture and was very pleased: I got a great assortment of different birds from White Rocks, Black Coachens, speckled blacks, Red Rocks, and Naked Necks - the Naked Necks were really interesting, and every one who sees them think they have something wrong with them. All seemed to be good layers. I loved them and still have the two girls from the first order along with 8 more. Now on the second order of 25 birds, I'm kind of disappointed, almost all of them are the brown sex links, a few black (not sure what kind) and that's it. The plus was that I only lost 2 birds from the last order; either I've learned a few things from my first order, or was just lucky. They are just turning 8 weeks old. The service was great, but the selection this time was not so great...I'll love 'em anyway....:)
