Random Bantams

I happen to be a Polish master (self proclaimed of course 😉) and can take a look.

We are in the beginnings of starting a Polish breeding program here.

He's humble about it, but it's very much not self proclaimed. He's been told he's the Polish expert by many people on here

I am fond of any animals who have more hair than they should. They might be a little too young or disheveled to tell but watching my boyfriend chase them around the new coop was worth it to try 🤣. Their names just go with my tendency to call everything dark colored "he" and everything light colored "she".

This is Fred. He was a litte balder at one point. I suspect he got picked at a little being in the brooder too long.

This is Ricky. He's a charmer and loves to be looked at but not touched.

This is Ethel. Ethel does not enjoy being manhandled.

And this is the star of the show, Lucy. She has to be in everyone's business all the time. I suspect she's a rooster, because she seems to be the leader of the pack, but they are all pretty laid back as far as interacting with the rest of the chickens.

Bonus: here's Lucy telling the other chickens about the disgrace of being picked up and then telling me off after the fact.

she's rather indignant.

This... does not even suprise me lmao. She's quite fiesty. What would be the right way to handle that many roos?
I think you can wait and see what happens.

I don't like to stereotype breeds, even this one that I really love so much, but I have found generally that Polish roosters really go against the grain in terms of behavior. The birds here really don't care too much about being the alpha dog, instead the just kind of live aimlessly - mainly interested in breeding 🤣 but they are smaller in nature, and will be a bit easier on the hens.

but they are all pretty laid back as far as interacting with the rest of the chickens.
This is what I have seen with the breed, exactly.

one thing I will guarantee will happen is they will pick at the back of the crest feathers on each other, and pick basically a bare spot on their head. If you aren't careful, it happens every single time. We have a splash cockerel here who is basically the culmination of our efforts (we are still very much amateur) but is showing really, really nice attributes. He was going to be the star of the state fair this year, and was going to help us defend our title. my son won with our cockerel last year, but sold him for an unbelievable sum for a chicken - this is what really started our polish enthusiasm l. Anyway, I came out this Monday to the Polish area, and someone had picked the feathers off the top of our prize cockerels head. Devastation.
