My wife is dying for some silver laced barnevelders. They are beautiful birds. They're supposed to be friendly, dual purpose, and lay large eggs.

These aren't silver but they are awfully pretty. I keep staring at them.

Are they nice? Loud or quiet? I have some sexlinks who are horrible bullies and I really would like to avoid that scenario again.

They are supposed to be quiet, but so are my Buff Orpingtons, and one of them won't shut up, so...

In my experience, there's one screamer in every group of Buff Orpingtons. Even when they are siblings!!

Ok, finally got the kids to bed so I can update. Went around asking the neighbors if they were missing any chicks. Started with the ones I know have chickens. Everyone kept saying no, all of theirs were accounted for. Started asking neighbors who didnt have chickens. Not theirs. Was talking to my neighbor directly next to me, yeah they were hers. She went and got chicks from tractor supply, had them in a box in her house and husband said no, they didn't have money for a coop or to care for them and that they have no idea how to care for them so early this morning she went through my back gate and just tossed them in the run. She said she did it around 730. Must have done it either right before or after I was out there and had unlocked the chicken gate. To say I was pissed is an understatement. I told her she needs to ask before ever doing something like that, my older girls could have killed them, they could have froze to death as we were only 28 that early, and that my flock are carriers for a respiratory disease. She didnt seem too apologetic.

This is getting long but she did say they were supposed to be all pullets, 2 cuckoo marans and 2 barnevelders. We will see. I guess I know need a lock and key for my back gate also. and now ontoomof the MG problem I'm now extra worried because I've been hearing not so great things about tractor supply chicks this year.

Honestly, I hate this neighbor. She treats everyone like trash but then expects us to do huge favors for her like this. I'm getting a camera installed in my back yard and if she ever breaks in again there will be problems for her.
