Ok, so I was sitting here..thinking about what breeds of chickens we are going to try n get next year....and ducks and geese.

But should ducks and geese be in pairs? Or more females?

Any advice?
We have a pair of geese

Cayuga duck pair
and a

Mallard pair....

I was going to get another pair of geese, but if I could get more females I would just do that...

thanks

sorry for the stupid question!

I guess you could do pairs but that would not stop them from cross breeding. More females would be the thing to do in my opinion. The standard ratio that I go by is ( if possible) 3 females per male. but thats a little extreme to some

So for waterfowl that is ok to do?
I was hoping, I would rather have more females, I am not worried about them cross breding.....I just love to watch them, but didnt want to get just females if they would be lonely....

Thanks!!

With ducks, I always get more females than males, like 3 ducks to 1 drake.
Geese, however, tend to take permanent mates, so pairs, or at the most, trios is better for them IMO.
