Does anyone else here have a flock that just seems to get along all the time? In watching my 3 hens interact since chicks I have noticed that nobody has claimed alpha status. I thought one of them would by now since they are now all laying regularly. These 3 all just get along so well compared to a flock of 6 I had years ago. These 3 are a hybrid (tho I suspect one is a Buff Orpie that accidently got mixed in) and the others I had years ago were Australorps and full of drama, not one of these 3 hens have ever picked on another one. Even when they are in their daily cricket feeding frenzy when I move the water container, they seem to just be very chill with each other and don't fight over any food source. I am planning on adding 3 more to the flock next Spring, I hope I don't get a trouble maker in that trio. lol

Am I just lucky or are the hybrid breeds more laid back than the heritage breeds or maybe just because there are only 3 of them? Could it be because there's no boyfriend to be jealous of or fight over? ha ha

I just find this interesting as my sister's flock is all over the place with bullies and flock drama. She does have 2 roos, but the girls are the ones causing all the ruckus she says. so funny how different they all are.

Pecking order isn't always obvious. There's still some sort of group structure within your flock, but if there's no need for them to squabble, they won't.

You'll probably see some changes once you add new birds. Nothing shakes things up like new additions.

well I wanted 6 to start with but we had the Cornish Cross sold to us as Leghorn issue and had to get rid of those 3. I wanted to get more hens to help family members out with eggs that can't have their own chickies as was the original plan. That's a thought about an additional coop, but not sure hubby is up to building one and the prefab ones I am NOT impressed with so much. It won't happen til next Spring and they just started laying so I am going to wait and see what the output of these girls will be.
