Does anyone have a bird that will spontaneously lower its head and walk backwards? I read Newcastle Disease has this symptom but that seems to be something that is continuous. This bird is completely healthy and acts normal with great vision and agility. Just sometimes he does this, usually around eating time and I think it’s funny but wondering if it should be concerning.

Look up chicken epilepsy. As long as he's behaving normally otherwise and isn't wildly flapping during his performance, I'd just keep an eye on him.

Thank you. Yeah, I don’t think its that. He can end it if the alpha roo comes near him and he runs away. It’s in his control. I think it’s just something he discovered and is fun to do. I just wonder if anyone else has experienced this with one of theirs. According to what I read about the disease is that it’s constant backwards walking. This isn’t his behavior. But definitely it’s something I want to understand better if it is an early symptom of something or just something I should enjoy. Thank you, again.

I have one. It was a brief episode as a chick and has never recurred. Her head would fall and she would scuttle backwards until she hit something, then flop wildly for a second and walk away as if nothing happened.

Oh thanks! That’s positive. The longest he’s done it is maybe 3 feet. It’s as if he’s trying to wipe off his beak but he doesn’t drag his break. Maybe I should change his name to MJ. He doesn’t flip at all. He just walks forward. I’m glad to hear it didn’t develop into something. Thank you.
