Random rooster just showed up - what now?

I wasn't going to post, cause it's not what you're asking about, but your little silkie roo can be just as dangerous as a larger bird if you're allowing him to attack you. Don't ever let little kids around him, and if you're down on the ground, know your eyesight is in danger. Don't mean to sound harsh, but I see more folks seeking treatment for bites from small dogs than large dogs, thinking the same thing--he's just so cute, he can't really hurt me. Plus, I personally can't imagine allowing ANY animal to attack me.

Fair points, but we're already careful to warn our rare visitors with kids about him. And as for not letting him attack me, well I'm not sure what to do about that. I read a long and informative post on here about how to handle aggressive roosters, and I pick him up and hold him when he goes for me, but none of it has made the slightest bit of difference. I suppose I could spray him with water or chase him away with a broom, but I just can't be bothered to have that fight when he's not really much of a threat. Now small dogs, on the other hand...

I love my alpha roo, does his job very well...but he goes after my little boy, who loved (notice the ED on that) to 'chase the chickens', he doesn't do that any longer, but the roo still will follow him and go after him...he tried yesterday, then at me as I yelled at him...I had to kick him several times...he got the message as he stalked away crowing...he is young, about 22 weeks...does a great job, and as long as I am with my son, he is fine...that is the way I like it...the other roo, runs away...that is not the roo I want protecting my new girls.

If he ever really attacked and could not be brought under control, he would be gone in a heart beat...I have 3 roos, one a wimp, and 2 good ones, I always tell the alpha, "you CAN be replaced"
