Chickens are like popcorn because...
As chicks, they are neatly encased in their "kernels" (shells). You "cook" (incubate) them for a while, until they "pop" (hatch) - at which point, you have a bunch of light, fluffy things that take up infinitely more room than they did just minutes (hours) before.
It's difficult to count how many individual pieces of popcorn you have eaten, so you say "what the hey? what's a few more?" Same premise applies to owning chickens. (see chicken math threads)
People love watching popcorn pop (and chicks hatch).
There are always a few kernels that don't pop
Nobody likes the smell of burnt popcorn.
