What is the best subject you can use to get a thread to take off? I've seen some threads with over 5,000 replies. How do they do it?

Very well said.Matthew's statement is really far off on several points. First, if you look at the threads that have the most replies, it is obvious that they also have had the most participants over time. certainly not five or so. Secondly, you can see that the topics are general and allow and encourage wide participation in topics that are, for the most part, non confrontational. Therefore more people are willing to participate without a fear of being challenged. Thirdly, the threads usually start as a pretty insignificant (and sometimes even foolish) premise and are allow to just free flow into a wide variety of topics that are usually not political or religious. So basically, most of the really big threads are just fee flowing and free wheeling and, for the most part are pretty funny. Lastly, and probably most importantly, these large threads are so general and free wheeling that you do not need to even know what came before. All you really need to do is begin your comment and become a part of the conversation that is then taking place. But like the weather in Maine don't rely on the topic to remain the same for too long, it will change on a dime.
