I am really worried about my garden while I am out of town. My squash are getting ready to produce, the lettuce and brussel sprouts will need picking and the weeds are going to grow out of control. My husband will be here but I will be lucky that he takes care of the chickens. but he does like them. the garden he is not interested in.

i had to go out and show him how to cut squash. he is clueless.

i go out every morning and walk through the garden and in the evening when i get home from work i weed. and take care of anything garden related that needs to be done. I am not putting him down I drug him kicking and screaming to the country. he does build chicken coops and helps with things other than the garden. the garden is mine. I am just worried that when I get home all my efforts will be wasted.

what have i gotten my self into?

Cry.

Honest cry and pout. Tell him how hard you have worked on it and how you are afriad it's all going to die while you are gone. Would he pleeeeeeeeease put some water on it (give him the days)

Guilt works wonders!!!

You may come home to have some weeding to catch up on and some produce to pick. If some things go over-ripe they may end up in your chickens' bellies. If I were you I would focus on asking him to water so that they at least stay alive. Back chores are one thing, dead veggies are another.

Good luck & I hope you have a good trip.

watering should not be the problem. it just rained for two days. i need him to pick the vegies and give them away because i know he will not cook them. i would love for him to weed but that is not going to happen.

What Angie said, I'd be lucky to have my DW give my chickens water! Glad I have a feeder in the coop.

You are right. i am just stressing because I hate to be away. Stuff is finally coming in and I will not be here. I can catch up when I get back.
he really is the best!!

I know, you wait so long for it to come in and not to be there when it does. Just think of all the goodies your chickens may have coming to them.

I wish the rain would let up a little bit but after the draught we had a couple of years back I don't fuss too much. (I need to make a few more rain barrels, just in case)

It will be ok. Just tell him to water things if you don't have a heavy storm in the next couple of days. Everything will work out.

How about some wet newspapers and some grass clippings around the veggies so the weeds can't grow!
We just put some weed block on.
We ran out so we recycled my son's ripped bounce around! It is colorful in the garden today!!!

the do have some cardboard paths and may cut up the old carpet we pulled out of the house. i have carpet padding under two butternut squash now. just a big garden so i need lots of trash.
