Rant about police- Update- Dismissed!

Quote:
Oh and it is possible, if the officer knows your intent to fight the ticket, you can get him to dismiss it ahead of time, and not have to loose work. Also if you mention this lost work, some towns maintain a fund that can reimburse you, but not many. It never hurts to ask.

She should file a complaint for harassment. That is not a good cop

Thats what the cop told me. I think it was something about no local courts. There just isn't alot out there in the desert of New Mexico. It was probably just a way to make money for the system. I know how frustrated you are Buster. Sorry

Just noticed the Chapparal, New Mexico. The ticket was in Anthony, NM not far from the TX line.

That is why I was wondering, you would have to go only to Anthony or at the furthest Las Cruces. Whoever told you that really came up with a whopper! There are Magistrate courts in Anthony, Sunland Park, and Las Cruces for this end of Dona Ana County.

We are going to go down to the Sheriff's department and complain long before the court date. There are enough annoying things about this situation that we feel it's important that we at least talk to a supervisor about it.

that cop sounds like a real jerk - sorry you guys had to deal with this.

I've only been pulled over once for speeding, and well yeah I was speeding

I agree, fight it, but I do want to give you a heads up, there is no such thing as ticket quotas, that was done away with decades ago, and just makes the person chanting it look uninformed. Stick to stating the facts that you know, document everything, and remove emotion from the whole deal! You must not seem emotional or unreasonable. The cooler heads prevail.

Believe me, the judge will get sick of hearing people complain about a poorly marked zone being heavily patrolled, but only if people speak up. It is a pain, but you can make the system work for you.

Good Luck, It is always a tough thing! Have a copy of your wifes perfect driving record with you when you go, that never hurts!

LOL that's the biggest problem is that DW can't keep her head when discussing things like this with an authority figure. She has had a sqeaky clean driving record for years so we can bring that up too. I am going to have to go in with her to discuss it but at this point I am a little hot headed about it too. I actually do not mind them patrolling my road or the adjacent roads and have told them repeatedly that I appreciate them doing so, but if they are going to patrol it they should at least know what the speed limits are.

Ha! Agreed! I was even a nice guy about the whole thing. I even told my dog to go sit in her crate. I know how protective she is of my kids and didn't want her to do anything odd because I was dealing with an authority figure, so I looked at her and said, "Tess, crate." She turned around and walked across the house and sat in her crate. The officer looked truly astonished that a dog would mind that well.
