rant-collection agencies

I do screen our calls that way, but these clowns have been calling at all hours for the past week or so and I WANT TO GET RID OF THEM. We've reached the point where we can pick out which calls are probably collection agency calls. This has been going on for quite a while. I don't understand how this guy is still able to buy so much stuff on loans or through credit? I even got a collection call about doctor's fees on my 15 year old son. When I told the agent that I wanted a DNA paternity test, he went, "What?" I explained that if it was indeed my son he must have been born out of wedlock as my kids are in their 40's and I've been with the same woman for 47 years.

I actually went to the doctor's office and got them to have the calls stopped.

Old and set in my ways. My cell phone is for emergencies only. Very few people have/will have that number as I don't like to be disturbed as I go about my day. I refuse to give up my land line because of this jerk. I've tried to track him down with no success. This is also true of the collection agencies.

Don't hang up right away. Let them explain. Get information about who THEY are. Then, after doing all of that (and logging info into a notebook) inform them that they are communicating with the wrong person -- that they do not have the correct household, John Doe, etc. Explain that you have logged this call into your records in detail and that any further communications from this company will be considered harassment.

Then, if they contact you again, repeat this process and immediately contact your Attorney General's office and/or a lawyer
for assistance.

We get calls all the time trying to get donation money out of my 84 year old grandmother. I got a caller ID that talks for her to be able to know if the call is local to help with most. They apparently had it in there computer to hang up if anyone else answered cause they did every time I did.

She was buying over priced garbage bags from a group who claimed to be disabled. I kept my mouth shut even though I'm disabled an dont have to con the elderly out of there money to get by. One day I walk in an they are on the phone trying to get her to pay them $300 that they claimed she owed them for garbage bags. I took the phone an told the woman (who sounded like someone in a gang live documentary) than no one in this house has ordered anything for $300 much less garbage bags. Me being nice an calm I told her she could send us a bill an we would match it to our records an deside if we owed them anything or there welcome to sue us for that $300 if they want but If they call us back our lawyer would be contacting them. She then told me that she did not want to talk to me..... I lost it. From here on out My neighbors could here every word I said. I said " Then dont call my ____ phone!" I used lots of race related words I don't use, called here ever name I could think of an made several threats. At some point she hung up on me an they never called back. My grandmother was standing there with her mouth open.

Yeah, it really made me lose my cool (not proud of this fact) that this lady was talking over me. Just after she had wakened me with this call. Hopefully, being from India, she does not understand what all of the words I used mean. I went to the extremes of my vocabulary.

Usually I play cat and mouse with these people, but she pushed the appropriate buttons to force me into instability. I have resolved that I will handle the next call more appropriately, and there will be a next call. I don't how this guy keeps on getting loans?

I wish I could offer some advice on how to get rid of them without you having to give up your phone number. I hope someone can help you.

When my parents were killed in an accident I moved into their home and kept their # as it was the number we had when while I was growing up. Jegs auto parts, LOVED my Dad. He restored cars and spent tons of $ with them. They apparently would call my Dad to offer "deals" on a regular basis. When i started answering the phone I would say that he was not available and they would call back on a daily basis so I finally said I am sorry but he is deceased. Usually that was enough to stop the calls for a few days. One day a man from Jegs called and was obviously not listening to me when I said he is deceased. He answered ok well I will try again at a later time. I lost it and screamed, well if you do get ahold of him would you please have him call me because I have missed talking to him the past 6 months he has been dead! Jegs never called back.

I did end up having to ask for supervisors on 2 credit card companies that kept calling regardless of what I told them. Then the calls finally stopped. I just explained it was upsetting to have to explain they were deceased, over and over again.

I wouldn't feel too bad. I lose my cool ALL the time. We get calls for my husband's ex wife. What annoys me is when they act like you're lying to them.

Sorry about your parents.

My sister was living in my Grandfather's house for a while after her divorce. Many times the telemarketers would call for Mr. Grandpa. Sis got tired of so many calls asking for Mr Grandpa so she said, he is no longer here. They would ask, where can we reach him?

"He is in real estate."

"Can we have his number?"

"No, we don't have his number!"

"Can you give us the address or place he worked at?"

"Sure, Graceland Cemetary, Lot C!"

Well, needless to say, sis has not gotten anymore calls after she has been using those lines, adding a different line or two to make it "fresh".

It was unbelieveable that the telemarketers and credit folks would keep bugging for Mr Grandpa after TEN years after he died! Jeez!
