And back again...

SO it started out innocent enough... saw an ad that caught my eye, trade fjord gelding for horse OR $250 dollars....
Emailed and got a call, and didn't get a photo first. I was told that they had come from a bad situation, were starved and well just too much for
them (new horse people, beginner rider young teens)...
I went up on Thurs, took pics... met the horse.. my heart melted....

Yes it really is a fjord...he is 5 and when I finally called the original owner, well I GOT her number today... but she was out and about till about
9 tonight...... Festus (as he is called) has a water absorption issue in his intestines, he was diagnosed as a 2 yr old...and prescribed Dexamathasone,
which is a synthetic corticosteroid.
It can cause metabolic changes and muscle wasting ... with prolonged use...and cause increased possibility of laminitis.
AND when the original owner decided to place him into a "forever" home... he and the old bay seen in the background..
They were starved. His original owner has used the steroid sparingly only when he would get massive runs...
The water absorption issues cause him to have diarrhea. SO for 3 yrs now.. he has had lots of this steroid in him.
OK.. doing more research... she (original owner) has perhaps.. unknowingly perpetuated the issue...
another side affect is Polyuria (increased urine) often appears in conjunction with polydipsia (increased thirst)

I want to get this guy.. but now I am shying away from getting him, but trying to help the original owner get him and the other horse, a 21 yr old Paso Fino who is too hot
for most riders, who also was starved AND probably has cushings....

The "trainer" a naive 21 yr old, has ridden both of these horses, and a bony paint, which you can't see clearly in the back ground.
He wanted to lease my mare Indi, cuz she is sooo purdy... (that is qualification for a jumping and show horse)....

So he still wants to try to keep the older gelding... for his sister, his sister is a beginner...
A quick update even before finishing posting this...I became friends with him on face book. And then saw his mother was trying to get a hold of him. So I messaged her. I just got off the phone.
I HOPE she is able to in a round about way encourage him to give the older horse back. She does NOT want her daughter on this horse, and after explaining to a NON horse person...
AND the daughter just recovering from a busted ankle from falling from a swing.. at 14...she understands and I hope makes HIM understand...

I will update as I know more, and HOPE that The original owner takes both back with the aid of the police if need be...
sigh...

Hmmmm. This reminds me of the day I was complaining to my vet about how nothing is more expensive than a free puppy. This particular free puppy had cost me a bundle for treatment for mange, worms, fleas, ear mites, etc. plus the usual puppy shots. She said that wasn't true. She said a free horse is waaay more expensive than a free puppy. She told me about her last free horse that ended up costing her several thousand dollars before she got him into shape.
