We just did that with a pig! We went in with a few neighbors and the neighbors son raised 3 pigs! He did most of the work, housed them, fed them, and then when the stalls needed cleaned we went and cleaned them. We all took turns! We also learned that we do have room to do it our self next time, and we know what to expect!
We also took care of the pigs when he went out of town!
Not off the wall at all.
We would love to do a steer, we do not in my opinion have the room needed to do it.
We don't have the pasture space, although some would beg to differ. I think our space would be more like a feed lot than good open pasture! So I just won't do it.
We have a guy that raises the meat, has it butchered, and the butcher calls us and asks us how we want it cut, when it is done the guy dilevers it to our door, and then helps us put in the freezer! I think it is a pretty good deal!
We also know what goes into our meat.
So I would do what tyou are doing, invite him for a steak dinner, I bet he will change his tune!
