Rant Rant Rant!!!

I agree with this. If you have a question about a Moderator's opinion, PM the Moderator privately. Don't post it expecting the rest of us to rally around your opinion.

I thank you for EVERY reply and DO apologize if it appeared I was singling out any one MOD! If I was I would have mentioned the MOD. Was just trying to get across that nobody is always right. If that didnt come through, I truly am sorry. AND, you who think I should "chill out", are right also. Been going through some tough times and rant rant rant, I did. Sorry about that too. I have probably learned more from Mods on this site than any other! I also believe that there probably isnt a question yet to be asked, that hasnt already been answered. Its an excellent site and Kudos to Nifty and the Mods. Thank you for the opportnity to rant!!!

I use garden and poultry dust, it has the same thing in it as sevin just not as much of it. DH stood and compared the labels. I got it at Rural King. Let me check and see how much it was.....it cost $5.49. Hope this helps.

In the poultry world you will find that even if you get 5 poultry people with 40 years experience each in the same room, and ask them a how to question, you will get 5 different answers.

Bottom line is, there is no absolute single right or wrong out there. You sift through the advice and find what works for you in the end. Sometimes that means trial, error and some heart ache. Unfortunate but true.

Personally I lean towards no toxins. Right or wrong depends on perspective.

i think what he is saying is, that maybe most of us believe that a moderator knows what they are talking about because they are in the position they are in when infact they may not?

and for safety reasons maybe in their response they should add that the person might want to read up on the pro's and cons of such products and decide for themselves?

how about using diatemacous earth instead? its all natural.

IMO sevin = evil. I hate the stuff. I am a beekeeper as well as a chicken person and I cannot stand the popularity of this garbage.

Cant help but wonder if it plays into CCD....

I think it's important for people, new and experienced, to ask and weigh the options based on their particular beliefs. Everyone has different concerns and differing levels of concern for themselves and their chickens. I for example am a freak and overanalyze everything.

For example,I have a completley organic chicken set-up yet when my Brahma started getting her feathers pecked out I sought advice and one option suggested was the blu-kote. Bought it, applied it and now I have a hen that lays purple speckled eggs? Coincidence? Probably not. When I went back and read the label completly, as I should have done in the first place, it says not to use on animals for food consumption. I'm sure for some this wouldn't be a problem but for someone like myself who has bent over backwards to be "all natural" it was a pretty stupid move. The point being, it was all my own fault.

I agree with you completely on the sevin issue. I would never use it. I can't even bring myself to use the DE, but I do understand that most people are not nearly as freaky as I am.

I can't tell you how much I have appreciated all the great advice I have gotten on this site but its up to the asker to analyze the advice for themselves. Sorry you're having a tough time.

I agree with this. But my opinion on Sevin is "I almost died from it a few years back when I accidentally inhaled some while my husband was putting it on our garden. I had one of the worst allergic reactions my Dr. had ever seen. My Dr. said I looked like a human strawberry.

Having said that it is a poison and I would not want to buy eggs from someone that had used it on their chickens. I use the food grade DE and I use a dust mask with it for safety.

Edited for spelling
