Ok, well Ive gone to Florida with a friend every summer for the past three years. Its just a week or two for the beach. but while down there we went to this local pet store - and I cried.
i have a special place in my heart ever since I got my first two rats. WHen we walked in they had the rats alone in seperate cages becuase they faought. Like when they got the rats in they had battle scars already. When I asked the girl at the counter if i could see one, she PICKED IT UP BY THE TAIL. Needless to say I freaked and told her not to do that - ever. She ended up droppin gthe rat in my hand - where it bit me. It ended up taking a chunk out of my finger.
They also had a mother fancy rat and her babies( feeders). They were in a ten gallon tank and at least seven gallons was pine shavings, and it was soaked with urine. i dont know how any of them lived.
They had three puppies there too. All were greasy and needed grooming, basically sleeping in their own feces as they were in cubicals like all the other animals.
The rabbits and ferrets were no better. All aggressive , over crowded, and unclean. Matted fur and such.
The birds - I dont even want to go there. They were missing feathers, some even bloodied. Chips in beaks and claws.
The fish were horrid. If you own fish, or know how to treat a tank imagine two inches of feces, algea just clumped all over and dead fish in ever single tank.
It was HORRIBLE!
I ended up contacting the proper authorities and filling a complaint. it took them a while to do it - but I just went up there and the place had been closed down
So, I guess that they got what they deserve. Im just wondering what happened to all those animals....
