Ranting Chicken's Reproductive Ill health.

From today forward all my chickens only eat their feed and green leafly vegetable. No more anything else as Mint had lot of yellow fat in her system.

I have 2 more hens that are started reproductive issues. There are 2 options:
1. Get them implant now
2. Continue to give them calcium until they reach ...and ...

Implant is to give them a break from egg laying and allow the body that time to repair.

Mint had 2 implants last year and 1 implant this year. She was so far into this. The implant was delaying the inevitability. She was too far down I think because that is a massive lash egg material and it must had build up for a year.

I just euthanized my sick hen Mint this afternoonView attachment 4291684View attachment 4291685View attachment 4291686View attachment 4291687. She was the first egg hatched in my home ever, she was healthy, strong, and inherited reproductive ill health from her Isa Brown father. Her mother is an Silver laced Wyandotte.

Her tummy was solid hard, she wanted to live, but she was carrying that large mass of lash egg material so she did not eat and was covered in feather only. Here what I found after opened her up.

I feel sad, relief and sad, very sad.

Edit to add: Fat covered her gizzard, all other organs did not look sick. I think that mass of lash egg about 400-500g if not more
So sorry.... At least she no longer suffers... Always very tough to have to help a bird pass... You obviously cared for her and gave her a great home... 😢

I'm so sorry for your loss. She no longer suffers.

That mass looked to be about the same size of what I removed from our Golden Comet. These production breeds have such a hard life.

The circle of life continues. Your sadness will turn to joy as your journey continues caring for your other chickens. Sending love. :hugs

Thank you ❤️
My heart ache and I feel emptied without Mint. I remind myself that I have been down this heartache before and will be again. My pain is different each time that is it is simmering pain this time.

Mint is at peace now, no longer suffer and I buried her in my garden so I can always good morning and good night.

That is such a big mass of lash egg, so heavy and it must had crush all her other organs.

I know what you mean. When I discovered how large the one was that I removed, I was dumbfounded by the size and the density; layered as Mint's was. I then felt a tremendous guilt for allowing her to linger for so long surprised she didn't succumb to it sooner.
They are amazing creatures.
May your heartache end soon. Be gentle with yourself.
