Rare occasion My hiney...

I have had one of these big owl "whirly-gigs" smack in the middle of my 2 acre field, for 2 seasons now.
We have a lot of hawks, and a number of Bald Eagles in this area.......
I don't want to jinx myself, but my chickens free-range all day, and I have not, so far, had any hawk/eagle attacks.
Does the owl whirly-gig have anything to do with this?
Who knows...............

Thanks but Im am starting to believe this juvy hawk is not migrating. He was here again today about 3pm and the past two days it was about 10:30am. Maybe he thought he would catch Me off guard. Im outside almost every hour looking for hawks. Ive got some funds so tomorrow Ill be going and getting some of the deterrants that Ive seen here that may be helpful. Almost every time the hawk sees Me he leaves. This is why Im thinking he is young.

The huge hawk did not leave at all and all of his tail feathers were red and I read on the internet that they have to be at least two years old before they get that color. Pretty bird but I love My chickens to much...

We have hawks here year round. They search the fields in the summer and hang close to houses with bird feeders in the winter. Knock on wood I've never lost chickens to them. Even a tough ol'game rooster is no match for a large hawk, even though they will try to defend themselves and their hens to the end(valiant creatures aren't they). Hawks are protected here in N.Y. not sure about other states. Red tailed hawks are numerous here. Will

i use the cd method lol. we strung up a few and since then.. not one hawk loss. sorry to hear of your losses. it can be awful to deal with.
