My grandson heard me saying that I wanted to get some raspberry bushes for my garden. FedEx dropped off 2 of them today. No directions as to what to do with them. I have plants started in the basement for my garden and was thinking I could put them in a pail with the growing medium I'm using and wait until mid may when there hasn't been too many frosts. Anyone have any tips on what to do with these plants. Thanks.

Your idea should work fine. Once it stops freezing around here (I'm in mid-MI too) you should be able to transplant them just like you would anything else in the garden. Good luck! :)

I had contacted the seller yesterday and was told that I didn't want the plant to wake up inside the house and it would be better to dig a hole and plant it outside. so I did. I'm going to put a pail over it at night because as you know we're still having frosts, and over the weekend, snow. so spring has not sprung here in MI. thanks for the help.

Was it shipped dormant?? I received a few blueberry bushes that came dormant with the roots and some medium in a bag, and the instructions said to leave them in a sunny place so that the bag condensates and kick starts the roots. That is what I did, and now they are beginning to bud! Will put them in tomorrow.

It had some buds on it when I got it, today they have leaves about an inch long. We've been having some below freezing overnights lately so I've been putting a garbage can over it as it's about 18in out of the ground. then when or if it worms up during the day and the sun shines I take the can off.
