Hello all! Just need to pick some brains for ideas here.

A few days ago someone brought 2 chicks into the clinic and said they were the only survivors of a horrific rat attack. One had to be euthanized as both his legs were snapped in half (not splayed, fractured).

The second has some pretty awful injuries, but is stable right now. He has a very large wound on his hip & base of his tail, as well as a punctured eye and head.

He was very weak, but has since perked up with medication, electrolytes, tlc and the use of a hospital brooder. Today he made the very big step of eating on his own.

The issue he currently has is this: Due to the injuries to his head and eye, he keeps his head tilted and walks wide circles. He can eat when placed in a box, and even scratches and plays. He is currently on IV fluids as we cannot figure out a safe way to let him drink water on his own.

If anyone has any good ideas on a waterer that he could figure out, or something simple to help him drink that would be awesome. I'll attach a picture below (I apologize for the poor quality as the brooder light is bad!).

As of right now I have a simple chick waterer inside the brooder with nutri drench but he cannot navigate it to drink. The food is spread out to make it easier for him the find it on his own when we aren't helping him.

You will likely need to help her find the water until she's fully healed. (looks like a br pullet)

If you show her the water does she drink, or take repeated sips after she's felt it on her beak? Or is it entirely that she can't drink?

Oh, I had assumed male due to the headspot! 😅

She doesn't really understand, even if you place her beak in the water. She'll act like she's drinking but try to do it away from the dish. She does drink with a syringe, but not enough (it's why she's still on the IV fluids).

Just wanted to update this thread and say she's doing great! Shes growing incredibly fast and her wounds are almost completely gone. She lost the eye, but that's not stopping her!

She'll be leaving for a new home soon as well. ♥️
