I thought my first loss was due to a raccoon.
I wasnt sure how one was able to get in, I looked around the house and didnt find any hint of a way in.
Well after my 2nd loss, I'm starting to wonder.
Both ducklings has their head missing or almost missing.
There was never a sign of a raccoon and it was only the 2 young babies, nothing has ever went after the bigger ducklings or the goslings (The goslings were in the same cage as when the 2nd duckling got attacked)
I've seen 3 rats running around in the duck house, but no coons.

Last night was the first time I had Raccoon problems. I went out to see what my dogs were barking and carrying on about.
I have to treat my dogs to a good meal today. Two coons trying to get to the chickens got stopped DEAD in their tracks. Thanks to my dogs the chickens are all ok. Good job boys and girls

Rats usually enter through a tunnel in the floor, hidden by bedding, and attack at the rear. Raccoons generally grab by the neck. Yours sounds like a raccoon, or a weasel, which can enter holes as small as 1" diameter. Check every inch of your coop thoroughly- you may have to clean down to floor level and check before fixing. Also check the eaves as weasels will climb, too.

Do you have an earth floor, concrete, planks...?

Everytime I had a raccoon attack in the past, they always killed more then one bird.
We are re-doing the whole duck house, right now its an earth floor, but thats changing soon.
I know theres weasels in Missouri, but they arent very common, so I'm not sure if it was a weasel or not.
