Rat predation risks for small birds?

We have two small indoor (rat proof) aviaries in our bird room and since the room is dedicated to the birds anyway why don't I just turn it into a room aviary?
Then my family told me about the rats, we must have some holes in the roof or something because although we keep dealing with the rats more keep coming. I can keep rat traps out all the time in non bird accessible areas but what about if the rats get to my birds before getting to the trap? I have budgies, lovebirds, zebra finches, canaries and diamond doves. So on a high perch (pretty much the ceiling) would I need to worry about rats hunting and killing my birds?
I'm really hoping I can safely give them a room aviary but I don't want to risk rats killing them
This is no rat problem currently, but I'd still be worried about if one developed

I don't know exactly how rat proof your room is. To test out,,,, keep some baited traps inside your room as it is currently, with the aviaries locked. If you do catch a rat,,,,,, conclusion, ,,,, your room is not sealed off properly.
Better safe than sorry.

For my chicks I use hardware cloth for the cages. Nothing can get in, snake or rats. I know rats show up now and then I do keep bait stations around in pet carriers so nothing but the rats can get to the bait. There are also cattle next door. Good luck...

Rats are absolutely a danger to any bird a half pound or under and will chew the toes of larger birds on the roost at night as well. But they don' come for the birds usually, they come for the bird feed. Just practice sanitation, metal cans for the bulk feed, feed what the birds will 100% clean up in a short while, and you ought to be fine. Neaten up the area so they have no hidden trails for travel.
