Rat proof feeder

Hello there,

We live in the country north of Seattle WA, have 8 chickens and a now known rat problem. I've been using the nipple water feeders but 5 gallon layer pellet feeders on the ground along with a "flock block"......bad choice on my part as we now have rats.

Are you completely happy with your feeder and did your chickens take to it quick enough?
The Grandpas Feeders are $275 for the large size and we don't have that in the budget yet I can't let the rats continue as they're now raiding our eggs, harassing our chickens and I am unable to set snap traps or poison due to our two dogs & organic yard we keep.

Your experience is very much appreciated and thanks in advance!

This feeder is the best thing I've ever bought for my flock! The learning curve took three days. Day one I put a brick in the treadle so they got used to stepping up to eat. I took the brick away once they wnt in to the coop at night. Next morning I tied off the treadle so it was 3/4 open so they got used to the door movement when they stepped on it. Third day I tied it to 1/2
Way open. 4th day they figured it out. A friend of mine bought one and his birds figured it out in a day. I had rats, squirrels and chipmunks eating my feed. This totally solved my problem.
