So, I found a huge rat snake in my coop today and it has very clearly eaten EIGHT of my dozen ceramic eggs...

I assume he's a goner now, as I can't imagine he'll be able to pass them naturally...

Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, how can I prevent this from happening again???

Well, it's one less rat snake to eat your chickens eggs.... that snake is a gonner. The only reason it probably ate them is because the nest box probably smells like your chickens. Also warm, if a chicken had been in the box when the snake went in.

Do you want to prevent snakes from getting in the coop or just prevent them from eating the ceramic eggs again?

Don't send flowers to the snake's funeral just yet. If nothing else a snake can puke itself inside out.

I agree with chickengeorgeto. Many snakes will regurgitate prey they find too big. I'd keep a lookout as you could (possibly) find them laying on the ground where they were thrown up (if the snake decides to do that).
