Rat vs Electric Fence

Is this charger the same as a fence charger for horses? I have the rope fencing with metal going threw it. My charger has one setting "on". The shorter the distance the less zap. Can I use metal fencing with this charger?

The rat faught the fence......and the fence WON.

This is the same fence that I have around my coop and run. I have yet to have anything get in that I didn't want in.

I know that when I worked for a veterinarian (many moons ago) the animals that weren’t cremated and owners didn’t want the body. We disposed them to a rendering company that made blood meal fertilizer. No cows. To me it was like the full circle of life.
Back to the garden to grow food. Hell I wouldn’t mind that at all.

As to the validity of this story......I smell a rat. If it worked as the OP suggested, all you would have to do to rid yourself of rats would be to smear a low hot wire with peanut butter. If it worked at all, it would be common knowledge and a lot of folks would be using it. More likely, they get zapped like all the rest and after that, learn to avoid it. As sensitive as they are to things, probably avoid it better than most.

I'm thinking that was just a hoax. Dead rat hung on the wire and false claim made.

I had the same thing happen this summer to 2 toads, 1 frog and a mouse. I was shocked (no pun intended) that the fence killed these critters, but they were very dead and caught in the fence, so it must be.

I realize this is a very, very old thread, but wanted to add we had a snapping turtle bite the electric fence and it killed it It was our horse fence, so a few feet off the ground. We were on vacation when it happened. What a surprise to find a dead turtle hanging on the fence when we walked the back line. I don't remember how I got it off, but I remember it was quite a challenge.
