So I’m currently working on building my duck coop/run. I have 4 Pekin ducks. I know I have two boys for sure and 1 girl. I’m a little iffy on one. If it turns out that I have two girls and two boys is that ratio fine since they’ve grown up together? I’m getting another girl here in a few weeks as well. So hopefully the ratio will be three girls to two boys. Would that work? If it turns out to be three boys to two girls I will have to separate them. I’ll post a video of my duck I’m unsure about and hopefully someone can help me!

We did five hens with two drakes for a while, and it kind of worked. We currently have five hens and one drake, and we need to supervise him during free-ranging April-August and separate the flock into groups when they are either in their pastures or in the run.

How does he do with the 5 hens?

Usually what happens is he picks one or two to pick on for the duration of the season (April-August). He will chase them down and stand on them (no mating). He's fine with the other three and mates with them. So we separate him at night (sometimes with his best girl and sometimes without). During the day, we mix it up and divide the flock between two pastures in different combination. We just make sure he is not with the two he is picking on. During supervised free-ranging 2x a day, it kind of varies. We let them all free range together. He'll be really good for a while and then all of a sudden he'll lung for one of the two. Those two girls have gotten really good at running to us and going between our legs. Then our drake gets some much needed snuggling. ;-)

i’ve been told the pekins are the most aggressive with mating, so 3 girls per drake would be best. right now i have two drakes and two hens but that’s only because they are young (once they hit like four months old, one drake will go in a pen with my girls and i’ll adopt 1-3 more depending on how rough he is)

then my other drake will go in a seperate pen, and i’ll adopt another drake. this will be a drake only pen

Also, if it's not part of your build plan, I'd strongly suggest building in a way that you can separate ducks in the duckhouse and run.
