Does anyone or has one done a study to see what sort of ratio you get when hatching eggs. I guess what i am trying to get at is I have 20 eggs on day 8, of those 20 are 19 going to be roosters or vise-versa?

Simple Mendelian genetics would say that if one parent is a ZZ(male) and the other is a ZW(female), there will be a 50/50 chance of boy vs girl on average. Draw a Punnett Square and see for yourself.

Yep roughly 50:50.....and yet I can still get 9 roos to 2 girls...... Mendel has a lot to answer for!

I've heard that the 50/50 ratio only really works out if you're hatching huge numbers of chicks. So out of 1,000 hatched eggs, 500 should be boys & 500 girls.
But if you are only hatching 5 eggs, at least 4 will be boys most times.

Yes, there are all the wonderful mathematical 'chances' and 'probabilities' that come in....i.e by 'chance' 100 out of 100 could be roos (or hens).......it really doesn't bear thinking about 100% roos

If you hatched 10 eggs chance of hatching all hens or all roosters would be 1:512.

Since you are hatching 20 eggs , assuming 80% hatch, a chance you will hatch all roosters or all hens out of 16 is 1: 65536 so you can relax.

However the chance you will hatch all roosters is still many many times greater than winning any lotto type lottery! LOL

Laws of probability work the best on infinite of very large numbers.
