Once you decide to stop feeding the rats they will be forced to leave. Get your bulk feed in metal containers and get a proper rat proof chicken feeder. Trapping and poison is a never ending battle. Stop feeding them rats and the problem is solved!

I always had really good luck eliminating rats from my pens by hunting them at night with a BB gun or pellet rifle. In my case at least, killing a few at or near their nest at night (when they feel safe coming out) stresses them so bad that they leave. Regular hunting and trapping can really impact a rat colony. Disturbing the nest sometimes works.
