We’ve had a bit of a rat/mice problem in our chicken coop for the last couple months. Can’t seem to get rid off them for good. Last night when my husband went out to lock them up he found a huge black snake curled in the rafters of the coop, where the girls sleep at night. Is the snake there for the rats or the eggs? Or both? Is it a danger to the chickens? They didn’t really seem bothered that he was there. I don’t know if I should leave it alone and let him take care of the rats/mice or try to shoo him out.

In our experience, it needs to be out of there. We have had these snakes actually try to swallow a bird by the head and then regurgitate them after the bird was already dead and suffocated.
