Hello everyone! Hope u are having a good day.

I used to have old MG positive chickens, got rid of them recently. The chicken yard was full of rats due to nearby barn. 5 months ago I got MG free chicks which are about to start laying, it's a different location, about 15-20meters from where MG pos flock was, I was practicing a remarkable biosecurity, having 2 diff. sets of clothes (1 for MG pos and 1 for MG neg chickens) and taking showers before feeding my young chickens, using different equipments, shoes, hands desinfectants etc. and I still practice good biosecurity cause I'm freaked out by MG. I've thought about every detail in advance in order to avoid MG but I totally forgot about rodents... Is it possible that they spread MG to my new flock for example if they go there to eat leftovers from feeders? 😟 I tried googling but I can't seem to find anything in common about rats and MG... Anyone? 🙏

Apparently Mycoplasma Pulmonis is a problem with rats, but I could find no information about MG.
Thank you for your reply. I haven't noticed feces just want to be prepared if it comes to that. I keep the coop as clean as it can be, changing beddings and adding some herbs to keep the insects away. So, fingers crossed. 😅🙏

Yes rats can and do infect chickens with mycoplasma both synoviae and gallisepticum. They have also infected healthy lab technicians. Rats are nothing to deal with lightly. Removing them is key. Even if you prevent rats from getting into chicken feed - storage or feeder - rats can survive on chicken droppings. Rats carry diseases, parasites, and bacteria that can be harmful to both poultry and humans.
