Hi all,

New to the world of chickens! 3 Pekin Bantam hens and 1 Pekin Bantam Cock.

Great birds, totally charming and entertaining.

It would also appear that we have now obtained a family of Rats!

I have a feeder but also throw some grain about for "lunch".

Looking out in the garden tonight myself and my wife could clearly see three very large rats sitting in the middle of the run scoffing down the leftovers!

So, what's the best way to get rid of them?

Any ideas on the best poison to use?

Cheers

There are plenty of rat threads here for you to read, but if I saw some sitting in my yard, they would have gotten a little lead put to them...

Usually over the counter pellet stuff works well.

I use the Tom Cat. Little green bricks basically. But my mice were pretty small. But, I know they do work on rats, just not sure how much they'll have to eat to kill them.

Just be careful with poisens and make sure none of your other animals including your chickens can get to it. Everything likes the taste and will try it.
