In a chicken setup, the only reason rats are there is for the food. So the easier method is to starve them out. Just saying.

Let's break this down.

# 1 "Rats can jump up to 8 feet". Why is putting your coop a foot off the ground gonna help?

# 2 For every hole you plug they will dig 2 more. From expeience

#3 Two feral cats patrol my coop on a daily/nightly basis and have not caught/killed one rat. Mostly because my coop is up on pavers. Those two cats can't get under the coop where the rats are. Both are Maine coon cats.

Snow. We have some grass still growing and two Bull Mastiffs next door. I hear rats like dog poop. And I bet those poops are BIG from those dogs.


ETA: And a cushy place to live under the coop. Hopefully we get some more big snow storms so my plow guy can push some big snow banks in strategic spots.

IDK unless my tree hugging neighbor has dog food outside. That's why I say you have to KILL them not try to relocate them. They will come back.
