A few nights after the concrete pad under the gate was installed a tennis ball sized hole appeared in front of a mole sized hill of fresh dirt. The tunnel was leading from outside to inside my chicken enclosure closest to the feeder. The trusty Victor snap trap proved itself once again, displaying a catch six times its size! The trap was dragged four feet from where it was set! I'm glad this creep didn't get away!

I cannot afford such things so I have a special patch of blackberry sticker bushes where rat carcasses end up.

Thank you to the moderator for warning the public for me! I should have done that for I do not wish to offend anyone, and I dont like killing critters, but this rat is a good example of the predators you need to keep an eye out for. These are dirty critters and I don't want them near my girls.

Good catch! Rats can play havoc with chickens. Not only wil they eat feed and scare and attack birds they also carry disease. Please keep in mind that if you see one rat, you probably have others you don't see. That one may have a mate and family near-by.
