One of our chickens (Orpington x Speckled Sussex) seems especially ravenous whenever any food (other than her regular layer pellets) comes her way. She will literally jump in front of the other chickens with eyes closed, grab whatever I'm feeding them, and scarf it down. She has free choice layer food and oyster shells at all times, and seems to be consuming both. Is she simply a Ms. Piggy, or might she be deficient in something like protein? I should note that she also has the smallest eggs in the group, although she is roughly the same size as the other hens. Every now and then, she will lay a thinner-shelled egg.
Thanks!
