wow. how rude. thats almost depressing.

really the only reason people back in the day had trouble with raw milk was because alot of people had their own and i know in Indiana we have milkweed and thats toxic to people if they drink the milk of the cow that ate it. And aparently if its so "foolish" why do hundereds of people still do it today? why do doctors and such say its healthier? And if you know the cow/goat, it should be fine. and do read up on the rules minnesota birds, what you said was rather rude. and i really dont appriciate(sp?) you dogging my mother like that. thats as nice as i can put it. also, you know how many times milk has been recalled becouse of something in the milk? and theres all kinds of nasty things in store bough milk. theres pus and blood and other icky substances. ew. now, minnesota birds, have. a. nice. day.

Thank You all... I've sent several emails and and waiting on a response about herd sharing. I'm glad its an option. I think it's a very wise choice to provide a healthy milk for my family!

Don't cowshare.... buy yourself a goat!! Then you can be as addicted as the rest of us that keep them...

my husband always tells people it's like having a dog that gives milk! They're more pet than livestock in this house!!

Unfortunately minnesota birds opinion is very common today and because of all the miss conceptions our society is very unhealthy. I truly enjoyed Oprah's show last week on the new documentary FOOD INC. It gives a very clear definition on the break down in our food quality and ideas on how to get it back.

It's all about education!!! And it's up to US to do it. The government has it's agenda on food, so unless we take a stand nothing is going to change. I feed my family raw milk and we haven't had an issue yet...I would guess, handled properly, we never will!

Edited to add: YES GET A GOAT!!!!!

Gonzo, Here in Indiana it has to be sold as "pet food".

There are several dairies around that sell it. I only drink raw milk and am lactose intolerant. Us folks can drink raw milk and eat cheese made from raw milk.

Did you know, that commercial milk is allowed very high levels of pathogens, including pus and blood form mastitis, where as raw milk, from pastured cows is not allowed this?
The industry believes that since they are cooking the milk, they do not have to worry about pathogens.

Stoooppppppppp.... blurgh. I don't wanna know. I, like so many people, drank store milk for years before deciding to take the future of my diet and health in my own hands by producing most of my food myself, be it eggs, milk or veggies. I don't eat store-bought meat because it grosses me out too bad.

I'll stick to the milk my little Nigi gives me. If that makes me foolish - then so be it

BLECK! Don't wanna read it! I HAVE to drink it thanks to local laws in Arkansas. Until I find someone that is willing to sell a gallon a week or so...I have to purchase through grocery stores. I am absolutely positive that I get sick so often thanks to the processed milk not giving me the vitamins I need to stay healthy.

Did you know there are 22 raw milk dairies in your state?
www.realmilk.com can show you where.
Most dairies have co-ops, and many co-ops drive long distances to get the milk all over the state.

I don't have room for a goat, done tried, hubby said NO.

I even tried to get a dwarf goat, with 4H as my escuse, and he won't let me.

Yes, but almost all are in central and the eastern part of the state. I went to realmilk.com and could not find one near Fayetteville, AR. That and I absolutely hate goat milk...but I am able to go back to OK often (once a month) and get milk from Swan's Dairy.

Do email the various cow dairies, and ask if they have long distance co-ops.
many have either rotational drivers, or tag team drivers, just to get the milk out.
And, there are many dairies that are not listed, but the other farms will know about them.
Many just do their best to fly under the radar, for obvious reasons.

For example, I know of a lady that was paying $18 per gallon for her raw milk ( not unheard of in some states) and by chance overheard that a small dairy 30 minutes from her, advertises by word of mouth only, and sells for $4 per gallon.
They would never have know about it if they had not over heard the convo.
