(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My wife and I got 11 "barnyard" day old chicks from a friend of hers (mixed breeds and sexes) at the end of April. We ended up with 6 roosters and 5 hens. One hen died. We keep one white leghorn rooster (DWR for dumb white roo - but he is very sweet), and 4 hens. All the hens started laying eggs in September. We bought a second small batch from a hatchery.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

(3) What breeds do you have?
1st batch (23 weeks old) white leghorn rooster, white leghorn hen, two white mutts (leghorn, americauna mix), a brown mutt (cochin, americauna mix we think)
2nd batch (8 weeks old) Five Speckled Sussex pullets and one Buff Brahma mystery chicken (unknown gender, but think it's likely male)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Entertainment, pest control (lots of bugs), eggs.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hobby farming, various sports activities.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We've been reading BYC postings on Facebook for quite awhile, and also this forum. Time to participate!
