re/ are chickens going to be the next currency? would you trade your

I agree things were better for the common person when bartering real goods was the prevalent form of trade.
They may not have had hot tubs and laptop computers but they had more control of how their expended efforts were being used, and by whom.

The banking system, while it has made some things possible for the average guy or gal that were not before, has provided the tools for the few to control the many without them even realizing it in most cases. And its getting worse every day.

If society should break down and those who have always depended on what what they could beg, borrow or steal suddenly have no more easy lifelines left, the only thing more valuable than your home grown food stocks are going to be the weapons and ammo you will need to defend it against the throngs of city folks migrating your way to "live off of the land".

About three days is all a major city has in the way of food stocks and if the shipments stop coming in the panic will follow. Then we would see just how civil Americans really are.

I sure hope it doesn't come to that.

But on a positive note.... I got my first ever eggs yesterday!!!

I will barter my eggs but not my girls...offspring, sure.

I have one older gentleman that buys eggs from me and he only wants the green/EE eggs. He swears they taste better.

I love to trade/barter. It really helps out in these hard economic times.

Like Southernbelle said, I traded her Welsummer eggs for a NZ rabbit.
I recently traded 8 week old Coturnix quail for Khaki Campbell ducklings, Welsummer eggs for veggie plants for my garden, more eggs for fresh squash and zucchini plus some seeds.

I traded a friend guinea keets for fresh goats milk, goats milk cheese, a quiche and goats milk soaps. She feels like she got the better end of the deal but I swear I did!

Same here.... We were thinking more about bartering for medicine/tools/services/water... etc..... Chickens COULD be more valuable than gold! If you were hungry.... and someone had gold or food what would you do? Yes society could break down fast and we do hope for the best but plan for the worst situation....
