Re-integrating 14 month old rooster

Can’t blame you there at all. I really hoped it would work out as I’m not one to think an animal is just evil. I think a part of the problem is his size. He’s like 3 times bigger than the girls and that alone is hard on the hens. I plan on adding a door to the outside of the run so he can get out and play in the grass without me having to carry him out. The head hen escaped and joined the flock. However, she was much better behaved. So some peace in the hen house for now.

Final update. At the ripe old age of 16 months, Randy is back with the girls and being oh so nice. I did have to separate Ms. Vicious and she is now occupying the "bachelor" pad. She was taking her role as "rooster" way too serious and was out of control mean. At first she thought it was quite special to have her private quarters, but after a couple of days she is realizing she doesn't get to pluck any more feathers or bite the other girls. Randy is doing great. He is ever so more gentler with the girls and being a very good guardian. Through out his confinement he never got mean. He did show his frustration with me but he never attacked me. Let's hope Ms. Vicious can be rehabilitated.

It's so nice to hear your rooster has become a gentleman. Mine still tries to get me through the fence of his temporary bachelor pad in the guest house. When the new walk in coop is ready the ladies will be moved in there and Roopecca will be returned to his original home in the "bigger than the guest house " coop now occupied by the ladies. I will also extend his run by sectioning a bit of the full run off inside with chicken wire and open the gate leading to it. He's just not ever allowed to mingle. I won't put up with his attacks but I'm not into culling him for being a rooster.
