So I have a larger sized mixed breed flock (24 hens and 1 rooster) and I'm having trouble re-introducing one of my hens back into the flock after she has been separated since hatching her chicks. She now has three six week old chicks and I can tell she is ready to escape her broody pen and get back into the larger run. The only problem is, when I try to turn her back out into the pen, she and the other hens fight! I'm talking jumping, scratching, pecking throw-down, drag-out fights. And its not just one other hen, its all of them. Then the rooster gets involved and we all end up scratched and bloody. Her broody pen is within the larger coop and there is mesh that separates mama and babies from the rest of the flock but it doesn't seem to matter. How do I reintroduce her and her kids to the flock? I have another broody mama who is going to need the pen here shortly so I need to figure it out! Any ideas?
