Hello,
I Live in MN and we have 3 hens my FAV is (Goldie BO), (Cookies BLW) and (Honkers Delaware). We also have a Roo (Rusty RLBW). We have had Goldie and Cookies as 1 day old chicks for just over 2 years now. Honkers and Roo were chicks Goldie hatched out last spring. Hoping she would have gone broody again this spring, but hasn't happened yet. Of course the weather is JUST getting nice!!! I secure Coop at night and they free range all day. We live around marsh, ponds, streams, and have lots of grasslands, wood and an actual lawn that we upkeep. As long as we can keep the pests away, they have a great deal of roaming they can do.
We lost snowy a Del. last night to my guess a grey fox. (Just saw one the other day for the first time in living here for 10 years). Haven't had a predator attack since Christmas Eve 2011...and that was a coyote that came to our kitchen door (KNOCK ON WOOD). It was a sad night here at home last night. Our Roo was also attacked either first and got away or he was trying to protect Snowy. He lost most of his tail feathers and now my son (7) calls him Rusty BareButt
Luckly he didn't suffer any tears or cuts.
I have read info on this forum for years now...it's funny I feel like I know some of you lady's just from all the posts I have read. I just haven't had much time to join...but here I am now
