Ready for the Coop?

My chicks seem so big for the bin they are in. It's been 2 1/2 weeks. Can these chicks go outside in a coop? The weather is warmer now in Illinois. Will they be okay without a heat lamp?

At 2 weeks chicks are generally ready for a bigger area. Are they acclimated to your outside temperatures? I would move their heat source with them and use it at night for another week or two while they acclimate, unless the coop is staying above 70 at night.

Mine also just turned 2 weeks and are getting eager for a bigger space. Our temps remain above 65 at night but the days run around 90. So going to attempt to let them stay out during the day and bring them in at night for a week or two.

That's how I usually do it.

90 degrees is quite harsh for young chicks- I'd be more worried about them dying from the heat.

I've got a large wire dog crate. Will it be ok if I just sit it in grass, without the bottom tray in. I think they are ready for an adventure!!!
