Ready to Give Up

That's a rough learning curve.
Quarantine, it's rule number one.
Try and buy from people you know who have healthy flocks and give breeders a wide berth.
Report the breeder. Breeders who sell diseased chickens are responsible for spreading disease and killing your favorite hen. Don't even think about feeling sorry for the breeder.
If you can't find someone you know with chickens you would be better off getting a small incubator and hatching your own.
People here seem to like doing it. I don't, I much prefer to let the hen do it but you don't have that option.

Oops, hit post too soon.
I do have the new hens quarantined out of precaution. How am I suppose to find a breeder with healthy chickens when I am being told the birds are healthy. I told the breeder about my first bad experience and she promised me her hens were healthy. Who can you trust?

So my flock is a carrier for ILT which manifests as nasal discharge, bubbles in the eye, and sneezing. I use Tylan 50 for 5 days straight if symptoms show up. @KikisGirls helped me to give the correct dosage.
How did you determine what they had?

Like you, I had no idea how complex chickens / turkeys are. In my first month, I dealt with fowl pox, a rat killed one of my chicks, spraddle leg, and another undiagnosed death. But, everything happens for a reason. My neighbor gave me the chick's (22), of which 16 are roosters that I now have to figure out what to do with. Again, everything happens for a reason. I'm figuring it out as I go, I'm committed. Don't give up, it's an adventure and it'll all be worth it in the end.

A friend on BYC had the same thing in her flock so she recognized the symptoms. Start a thread about the Marans and include pictures and their symptoms. Someone will know what they have and how to treat it.
Thanks so much for all your help! I'll post a thread about the mayans tomorrow!

Oh my word! 16/22 were roosters?! I love chickens, but I already have so much on my plate. I do agree that everything happens for a reason. Maybe I'm getting an early lesson in helping a sick chicken? I just pray this isn't going to continue to be a trend!
